The WWII Bunker on the beach at Vester Husby!

As we have been doing too much relaxing today we decided to go for a walk on the beach to take a look at their resident WWII Bunker.  But because we were feeling a little lazy Tony drove us there.

A day of relaxation!
Vester Husby has a Bunker on it's beach left over from WWII.  I think it's one of the last ones left in this area.  Back in WWII Germany occupied France, Belgium, Holland, Norway and Denmark and they erected these Bunkers as defence against anticipated invasion from The Allied Forces.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:  The Atlantic Wall (German: Atlantikwall) was an extensive system of coastal fortifications built by Nazi Germany between 1942 and 1945 along the western coast of Europe and Scandinavia as a defence against an anticipated Allied invasion of the mainland continent from Great Britain.[1]
Today, the ruins of the wall exist in all of the nations where the wall was built, although many structures have fallen into the ocean or have been demolished over the years. While in the immediate years after the war there was little interest in preserving these structures, there have been recent movements to preserve the remaining structures in order to preserve the memory of what existed during the war. The Bunkers were built all along the coast from the top of Norway down to Spain

Inside the Bunker.
It's amazing to think that this Bunker is left over from WWII.
There are remains of other Bunkers in the water

Most of the Bunkers have now been demolished and turned to rubble like the photo shows below.

Rubble from the Bunkers!
This is summer in Denmark ..... it's more like winter on the Gold Coast!

I hope you enjoyed today's History Lesson!
