It was time to leave Denmark and the chilly weather behind and head back down to Hamburg. The trip was going to take about 4hrs so we decided to stop off half way at Flensburg to buy some Danish licorice (absolutely yummy) as it was cheaper in Germany than in Denmark. Everything is so much more expensive in Denmark.
As Flensburg is on the border of Denmark and Germany a lot of German travellers holidaying in Denmark will stock up before they go and many Danish come down to shop in Flensburg because of the cheaper prices.
But ...... Tony wanted to eat a Danish Hotdog as they are well known for being very delicious. When I think of hotdogs I think of a red sausage in a big white bun with sauce and onions and I wasn't really interested is getting one.....which I now regretted. They are delicious and the buns are only small with different sauces and crispy onion. And I'm sure it was 98% fat free as it didn't taste fatty. Ha Ha!

I did a little shopping as well while we were waiting for the hotdog stand to open. It's ok as there were sales on and so I did save money. Like the saying goes 'You have to spend money to save money' or something like that.
The shops in Germany are so civilised ..... while we were shopping for our licorice we stopped to share a plate of melon and proscuito and a glass of wine for lunch for 5 euro (which is $7.50 AU). What a novelty.
We arrived in Hamburg to the greetings of Tony's wonderful friends Annette and Klaus and one of their beautiful daughters Sara. There was lots to talk about over beer, wine and dinner.
This amazing schnapps came out through the night that was almost too painful to drink but as it's been a standing tradition whenever Tony and Klaus get together they just had to do it. It's called Ratzeputz. Hmmm it even sounds scary! The men had quite a few shots and the faces they pulled after they downed each one looked so painful that it didn't make sense they wanted to keep drinking it YUK! All I could think of was it had a smell and taste of fermented ginger ....... but really, really strong. I didn't want to be in pain so I only had a sip. The men, however, were much braver.

As both Klaus and Annette had to work tomorrow we didn't have a late night.....we were in bed by midnight. And also Sara was starting back at school too.
We have been so welcomed by all of Tony's friends and Annette and Klaus included. Thank you so much for our lovely short stay.
