Day 24 - Sightseeing in Berlin!

I woke this morning to Tony saying:

"I have some good news and bad news!"
"I have done all the photos for you"  Great that must be the good news!
"But I have 278 for you to choose from"  Ahhhh no!

So I've spent about an hour writing this blog and choosing the right photos for you so you won't get bored with so many pics! But I'm sure you don't mind being bored with a lot of very interesting photos of Berlin!  Am I right?

Ok, first up we went to the Topography of Terror. The indoor/outdoor display was  in German and English and it follows the rise of the Nazi's from the early 1930's to the end of the war , to the war crimes and the rebuild of Germany.

It was quite a somber display (as you can imagine) and I felt quite low and a bit depressed by the end of it.  However, it was still a very interesting account of the war.

The Outdoor display was about the destruction of Warsaw

Next up was Checkpoint Charlie.  It wasn't far from where we were.  The main tourist attraction there was a booth in the middle of the street with some guys dressed in American soldier uniforms charging to have photos taken with them.  Apparently the booth is fake but it symbolises the area where the check point was.

There were a lot of tourist groups and I overheard one tour group leader say how Checkpoint Charlie got it's name.  The name was given by the Americans and as this checkpoint was #3 it got the code name Charlie from the call signs Alpha, Bravo, Charlie.

A great selfie moment
When the wall came down people chipped away at it to get a souvenir of it

Berlin has a lot of colourful pipes above ground and I just had to google what they were.  Here's what I found (just click on Berlin for the info) ...... it's worth a read and quite interesting.

More sightseeing to do!

Oopps! I got caught shopping ...... but it's a mens' store.  I was looking for something for Craig!

Brandenburg Gate - below is information about it.

The next few photos are of the huge Tier Garten in the middle of Berlin .....just stunning!

More displays of the wall at Potsdam Platz and if you look closely the dots on the walls are chewing gum!
I just had to put this photo in.  These young intelligent young people want money for more beer and weed!  hahahaha!

Berlin Hauptbahnhof!
We caught up with Nadja, a friend of ours from Brisbane, and she took us on a walking tour in the area of Museums, Cathedrals, Universities and markets.  She was the perfect tour guide explaining it all to us.

Ooops! got caught shopping again.  I call it research!

Another day bites the dust!  Time for bed after a huge day of sightseeing in Berlin.  It's a fantastic place to visit, shop, eat and be entertained around the clock.  Will be back again!

Tomorrow we are doing another long drive to Stuttgart.  Or should I say Tony is doing the long drive and I'm doing the long sleeping!  We will stop off at Dresden for lunch!
