Day 11 - Sightseeing and Pre-Wedding Dinner!

Today has been another slow day......after all the sightseeing we packed in last week it's nice to slow down a bit.  But wait, we still have some sightseeing to do in Hanover.

We caught the train in to the city centre with Tobi, Lisa and Pat and took a leisurely walk through the old part.  Tobi said that Hanover was severely bombed during the war and you can see where they've built new buildings next to the old buildings.

You can see the old and new buildings on the left and right!

A quaint cafe!
The dinner tonight will be to meet the families before the wedding tomorrow.  On Tobi's side there will be his mum, dad and his brother Jan, and on Lisa's side, this is a bit trickier, there will be Lisa's mum, Susanne and her partner Mirko, Lisa's dad, Tony and me and Lisa's stepdad, Jens, from Lisa's mums second marriage.  I think schnapps shots need to go around to start with to break the ice!   All up there will be 20 people.

Once the introductions are over I'm sure there will be a lot to talk about over dinner.  Hmm! the only thing is I don't speak German. That's ok as most of the young ones speak English and Lisa's cousin, Pat will keep me company.  It shall be an interesting and exciting night.

The happy group!

It was a fantastic night.  Everyone came together for 2 people, Tobi and Lisa, to make sure their night and wedding day will be a happy one. We did have a round of schnapps and a toast to everyone and by the end of the night we were all behaving like old friends.  After dinner we went back to the Maschseefest and it was absolutely packed.  I suppose it's like Oktoberfest.
On the way to the Maschseefest I nearly got run over by a cyclist!  These tourists who don't know where to walk!

The tower in the background has an observation deck which moves up and down!  Very cool!

Lisa and her two dads!

The boys bonding.

We all had to try the traditional drink:  a beer with a schnapps chaser!  But they have to be drunk at the same time.  The whole idea is to get the schnapps to pour into the beer while you are drinking.  Very tricky not to get it down the front of you so standing correctly while drinking is very important.

The beer and schnapps chaser is called Luettje Lage (pronounced Lucher Lager)
Luettje Lage comes out!

This how it's done!

The younger ones can do it so much quicker!
The beer and schnapps!
Don't worry Helen I looked after Pat for you.  I treated him like my own son.  I made sure he didn't drink too much and not talk to any strange girls!

Tomorrow, of course, is the big day.  Lisa and Tobi's wedding.
