Day 19 - We are off to the Island of Sylt!

Today we woke to a vey rainy and windy day but that didn't worry us as we were going to the island of Sylt in Fiete's car.  Fiete and Anke have got a lovely day booked for us.

It took us about 30 mins to drive north to Romo (which is in Denmark) to get on the barge over to Sylt (which is back in Germany).  For a windy day and choppy sea it was a very smooth ride over.

First up we stop at a beach where you can drive on the sand .... but the beach was really wet so we didn't drive very far.  We got out and braved the weather to walk along the beach and sand dunes.

But people still went swimming!
The little dots in the distance are 4WD's and is where we could have parked the car on a good day.
We settled in for a nice trip across the choppy seas and enjoyed coffee, tea and beer.

The rain was coming down and it was very windy on Sylt but we managed a few walks to the dunes.

I'll let the photos speak for themselves but just to let you know this is summer in North Germany.

We then drove down to Westlander which is a resort town on Sylt.  There we stopped for Kaffee and Kuchen.

You can buy this little house for 1.5m Euro that's $2.7m Euro
We then walked up to the beach and looked at it from a distance as we had to pay 3,50€ ($5.25 AU) to go to the beach.  But as Tony says, which is now another favourite expression, Geschaeft ist Gehschaeft (pronounced Ge-cheft - meaning business is business). I'm really picking up the German lingo.

The beach at Westerland......it's summer!

To get home back to the mainland we got on the train with the car ... what a fantastic adventure.  It's like driving your car without driving it.

The last dinner with our beautiful hosts, Anke and Fiete
Playing with the gorgeous kitties
Our little attic room
Which beer should Tony drink ... what a choice
We have had two fantastic days here in Emmelsbüll-Horsbüll with Fiete and Anke.  Thank you both so much for your hospitality and showing us around the beautiful part of your world.  I'm sure we will be back again soon.  And thank you also, Anke, to your lovely dad and stepmother for welcoming us into their home.  It was a pleasure to meet them.

Tomorrow we are heading north to the top part of Denmark ,..,., to visit friends of Tony's, Monika and Jurgen.  They are on holiday for 2 weeks and we'll be there for 2 days with nothing to do but eat, drink and relax. I'm not sure about internet there so if you don't hear from me for 2 days you'll know why.
